This year Robb and I turn 60 years old so we decided we’d ride across America. Well actually Robb decided he’d do the ride but I had to do it with him otherwise he probably couldn’t get permission from his wife, Madeleine. I think this is CRAZY but when your buddy needs a wingman you just take up the position and do your job.

I believe Robb’s been obsessed with this ride since he first attempted to draw a perfect circle in pre-school. I know they didn’t have pre-school back in those days but you know what I mean. He rides like the wind and can’t stand it unless he’s at the front of the pack so this should be interesting because I just want to take it one pedal at a time and see if I can survive for another day.

So we’ve ridden a lot of miles this spring trying to harden our butts up and hopefully we’re ready for the good, the bad, and the ugly. I really want this to be FUN but I know there’ll be some less-than-fun and probably downright ugly parts but that’s what makes for good stories.

This is the rich man’s way of touring. Every morning we drop our bag into a support truck and spend the day pedaling to the next luxurious hotel…no tents, Ramen noodles, drying out by the fire for us. Those guys are the true hardcores so I’ll try to keep my whining to a minimum.

Robb has a helmet cam that has a whining sensor so it automatically begins to film when I complain. With a little discipline I hope to post every evening with the hi-lights of the day including photos and (possibly) some excellent HD video.

Come along for the trip!
