Day Three

This is how you can tell the biker gypsies have arrived at the motel.

I WALK THE LINE

What a fabulous day from start to finish. A little weird at first because our breakfast wasn’t at the hotel so we had to load the luggage and ride to breakfast which means my morning “routine” was changed…the easy part was brushing and flossing before eating but my morning time on the throne was interrupted if you know what I mean. Anyway it was all worth it as this was, by far, the best breakfast we’ve had so far with lots of great choices and all cooked to order.

Today’s virtual riders are all my friends at the Trek Stop in South Grafton particularly Gerry and Dave who obsessed over getting my bike and mind ready for this trip. A perfect day dedicated to the perfect bike shop! Thanks guys!

So the first 33 miles were on the scenic American River Bikeway from Sacramento to Folsom. Unbelievable spinning through gorgeous country crossing the river a couple times with our SAG stop at Beals Point Park on Folsom Lake (this is where we meet the van for snacks, water, and a motivational pat on the butt…SAG stands for “Support And Gear”). We went right by Folsom Prison…sorry I couldn’t get a good shot but it was really cool just to see.

After the SAG we went back to a busy road but a nice, safe shoulder to Auburn. Bit of a climb up to Auburn but nothing difficult. A picture-perfect thriving downtown with everything we need including two bike stores and, of course, a frozen yogurt stand. Our mechanic and co-leader, Gerard, had two helpings and I didn’t want him to feel guilty so I joined him for a second.

Quick pump up a few more hills and we’re done for the day early which gives us more time to worry about tomorrow and the first real test when we head to Truckee over 74 miles and 8000+ feet of climbing. But, hey, that’s tomorrow and we’re taking it one day at a time so we’ll just relish the end of a perfect day with gourmet dinning tonight at Sizzler, home of unlimited dessert (think soft serve mmmm….)!!

See you in Truckee!

  1. Ok Rossiter, are you really there? This looks like the Blackstone. How about you and a county road sign in the same photo, ie Lovelock NV 91 miles.

  2. Scottie,

Passed the email on to Mardie as requested! Looks like great fun, but are you lowering your standards? Frozen Yogurt?

I hear the train a comin'
    It's rolling round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when,
I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone..

    Keep having fun, Henry
