Day Thirty-two

New guy Mark felt that Kiwi Rick was lonely. I think he found this NZ shirt in the bargain bin at Walmart last night and wore it to make Rick happy. It looks like it worked.
The only reason Judy is upset with me is that I took this shot before she freshened her mascara.

What a Difference a Day Makes

Hey those Missouri Rollers that were so much fun yesterday were “less fun” today. I thought maybe it was just me but the general opinion at the end of the day seemed to be that it was a bit harder riding today than expected.

The last two mornings the conditions have been almost identical at 70 degrees with oppressive humidity. Today it got a bit warmer with a little more sun and it was one of those days when there wasn’t a hint of breeze. Within 30 minutes my gloves were soaked in sweat and at the first SAG I was almost cold because all my clothing was saturated.

The riding was again totally rural with gorgeous farmland on rolling hills. Cattle, dairy cows, corn, and soybeans everywhere. You can imagine how excited we were to ride through Thousand Hills State Park. I don’t know if anyone actually kept count.

Only about 25 miles to finish from the second SAG but the rollers just kept coming like waves at the beach. We kept seeing wet roads but we never actually experienced any rain so I guess we were really lucky.

The local DQ here in Kirkville is about a mile past the hotel but that was an easy mile. The hi-light of that visit was the dancer (at least we think she was a dancer!) who was standing in line. I think she had my name tattooed on her neck but no one was brave enough to get close enough to actually see.

By the way…the name of the city is not from William Shatner’s famous role. It supposedly goes back to the original postmaster who was named Jesse Kirk. There are a couple colleges here including Truman State.

Should be an interesting route rap tonight because we cross the mighty Mississippi tomorrow! On to Illinois!!

Today’s ratings: (the higher the better or easier)

Scenery: 7

Road conditions: 8

Grunt factor: 3
